Healing and feeling whole and beautiful through natural foods and other means is at the core of Macrobiotics (which is a quest for the Great Life). So of course, it goes without saying, I am delighted and honoured to have her here.

Feeling Beautiful After Your Cancer Diagnosis

A cancer diagnosis can be devastating.  You may be worried about the impact on your long term health, medical bills, and the toll your treatment will take on your family.  You are right to worry about these things, and you may think that beauty is the last thing that you should think about.  While your appearance may have to take a backseat to other things at this difficult time in your life, don't forget how important it is for you to feel good about yourself.  A little attention to your appearance can be enough of a pick-me-up to keep your spirits high.

No matter your diagnosis, whether mesothelioma from asbestos exposure, skin cancer, colon cancer, or any other type of cancer, staying upbeat and confident is very important through your treatment.

If you are facing chemotherapy and likely to lose your hair, consider getting that bold short haircut that you were always too afraid to get before.  Not only will you get to see how it looks and learn how to style it, but if your hair does fall out, having shorter hair will make it less messy when or if you do start losing your hair.  If you do lose your hair, it is your choice whether you want to wear no hair, a headscarf/hat, or a wig.  Do what feels right to you.  If you cannot afford a wig, there are organizations out there that can help you, don't be afraid to ask.  If you lose your eyebrows, you can learn to convincingly draw them on or you can even buy fake eyebrows to apply.

There are certain chemotherapy drugs that may turn your nails black, so now is a good time to get yourself some pretty nail polishes and take some time to give yourself a manicure.  You can do your own nails, or arrange some time with friends to do each other’s nails.  This can be great bonding time and something simple you can ask of someone who has asked how they can help you get through this time in your life.

New clothes or shoes can also be a great morale booster.  Whether you go to a department store, thrift store, or organize a clothing exchange with friends, just having something new to put on can make a world of difference in how you feel.

While you may feel that worrying about your appearance is the last thing that you should do now, just realize that you should only do it for yourself.  If you will feel better with a wash of bronzer, some lipstick, a comfortable skirt, and some cute shoes, then make it happen.  The key is to only worry about the things that make you feel better, the things that give you confidence, not anything that anyone else expects of you.

Grains and Vegs.

Grains and Veggies are all I need for a yummy meal.

Throw in a bean or two and it feels all fancy :)

I think the spring "cleaning" is doing it's body and mind are definitely clearing out whatever is unnecessary. As a result, my moods have been up and down. I was feeling really energetic and lighter for a few days, then I was randomly & irrationally angry yesterday---> I think it's probably my liver clearing out some old junk. Feeling up and down is a normal process when the body is cleansing. The best way to handle changing emotions is to be accepting and grateful for everything, and then to let it go.

Today I am feeling happy, but really tired. Overall though, I feel much brighter, more clear headed, and motivated. And still no insanely bad sweets cravings, and I haven't for a milisecond desired chocolate which is almost unheard of for me...I actually really can't believe it! The veggies and grains sure are working their magic!

I've been upping my amount of leafy greens, usually having a portion with lunch and dinner. I'm mostly focusing on greens and wholegrains, and chewing lots. Sour tastes go with spring eating. So i've been loving the lemon. Umeboshi anything is great too! I had a teeny bit of the vinegar yesterday, but unfortunately don't think my stomach is ready for it yet.

I am still having a bit of almond milk here and there with some dandelion coffee, but want to eliminate it.

So, I need your help!

Do you have a good (macro is preferable) recipe for grain milk?

Or, second choice is a recipe for seed milk?

I have a few exciting posts coming up:

* I made my own black sesame gomaisho (black sesame & sea salt condiment). So delicious. The smell took me right back to Japan, which i've been missing a lot lately.

* I will also have a guest post coming up, about natural & organic body care and make excited!
